Saturday Haitian Konbit, Drumming & Farming

Saturday, May 21st 10am-4pm
Drumming, Dancing, Feasting, and Tilling
Haiti meets Brooklyn as Makandal, Green Guerillas, and the High School for Public Service (aka Wingate High School) call a Haitian-style Konbit at the school’s Youth Farm.

Master Drummer Frisner Augustin and Dr. Lois Wilcken have been working with a group of students and their music teacher to compose a Haitian piece that explores the resonance between the traditional Haitian work party (konbit) and the school’s ground-breaking (pun intended) project in urban agriculture. The performance coincides with a BFC Crop Mob Volunteer Day lunch break around 11:45am. Traditional Haitian food follows the musical presentation.

Volunteer Day at the Farm, 10am to 4pm. Bring a water bottle, work shoes (no sandals, chucks, keds or toms) and a hat.
